Communication skills, Goleta Toastmasters, Leadership skills, Presentation skills, Public speaking skills, Santa Barbara Toastmasters

Agenda for May 10, 2010

Enrique will be the Toastmaster and the theme of the meeting is impromptu speaking.

Everyone will get a chance to work on their impromptu speaking skills. (guests do not have to participate)

There are no other pre-meeting assignments at this time. After all the theme is impromptu

The formula for the evening

The activity will be to write a topic down on a piece of paper. This will be a general topic that nearly everyone can give a 5-min. speech on.
Each person will fill out a slip of paper with a topic. Very short, 1 – 5 words.
Will will gather them together, number them for speaking order, then mix them up, and distribute.
People can trade with their neighbors if they wish.
Each person will have a 2nd slip of paper, the size of a small, square Post-It note. The idea is it fits and hides nicely in the palm of your hand.

You will have 2 minutes to write on that paper:

  • Intro:
  • 3 – 5 main points
  • Conclusion: Restating the Intro and the key points.
Each person will have 5 minutes to deliver that impromptu speech.
The talent is to take the topic where you want to go. Take it to something, some key points, you can speak cohesively about.
Then wrap! it up in an irrefutable way so you make your final point.

You are the expert or at least someone credible on the topic, your topic, which doesn’t have to be right on the main topic.
For example, if you were given Healthcare 2010. You could bring the speech to a personal story about your grandmother and talk about how she might have viewed the situation.

We will do short, group only, evaluations after each speaker speaks. 2-4 minutes.

Members RSVP and or questions to Enrique

And of course bring a guest, or here is your invitation to come as a guest (no need to RSVP, just show up)
